This campus master plan was an important study for The University of Sydney. It addressed some of the most fundamental questions of the campus: ‘bridge’ the split nature of the campus separation over City Road and the role of this connection point as a gateway; develop the character and terminations of Eastern Avenue both at University Place and City Road; address the entrance and route from Redfern Station; determine the future form and character of Maze Crescent; address the form of the campus at the significant Cleveland Street public frontage; develop envelope controls for strategic sites; and provide clear and practical visions for the university environment.
Recognising the importance of the ‘campus experience’, the master plan identified current and future opportunities for the transformation of the built environment, to ensure that the institution combined its traditional heritage with that of new leading-edge facilities.
