The proposed 42-storey commercial tower sits on an amalgamated site linking Pitt and Castlereagh Streets at the crest of Sydney’s CBD and will be a significant addition to the city.
TThe proposal responds to the site’s inherent attributes at multiple levels: a carefully articulated assembly of elements (groundplane, streetwalls, tower element and landscape) create a unique architectural form, gathering a significant sequence of public open spaces and streetscapes into a cohesive whole.
The podium complements the existing streetscape. Layered sandstone and precast streetwall forms connect vistas of the neighbouring heritage-listed Sydney School of Arts (on Pitt Street) and Mirvac Trust building and Great Synagogue (both on Castlereagh Street). There is considered juxtaposition of contemporary and heritage structures; the heritage-listed Legion House is integrated within the new development and returns the fine structure to its former glory.
