Following a design competition, fjmt was commissioned to design this significant residential development.
The site flanks the main entry into the Prince Henry urban redevelopment, forming a symbolic gateway to this new community. Two sinuous building forms create specific relationships with existing heritage buildings, drawing inspiration from the natural features of the coastal locality. Acting together to compress and unfurl, they create a new public open space and sense of arrival for the precinct
The five-storey buildings comprise four levels of residential accommodation (131 apartments), ground level retail and commercial tenancies, with basement car parking. Terracotta facades and occupant-controlled screens characterise the building providing articulation and depth through a layering and interplay of facade and screen elements.
Currently in construction, the project will be completed in 2010.
