The primary vision for the redevelopment of Parliament Square is to create an important new Public Open Space and Urban Form that are carefully integrated with significant heritage buildings, sensitive urban structure and the character of the City.
The creation of a public open space completes and complements the public domain sequence that connects the City to Salamanca Place. The opening of this space to the waterfront acknowledges the primary axis of the natural amphitheatre created by Mount Wellington as well as enhancing its own connection to the Cove.
At the core of the refined design is the creation of an active and usable public space integrated with related functions. The public space extends into the immediate environment of the Cove and Salamanca Markets.
