Following a design competition, fjmt (in association with Hassell) was commissioned to design the Creative Industries Precinct. The project includes seven buildings, both new and refurbished heritage structures, gathered around a major urban square. It is Australia's first site dedicated to creative experimentation and commercial development in the creative industries.
It provides a unique opportunity for designers, artists, researchers, educators and entrepreneurs to easily connect and collaborate and boasts some of the most advanced digital facilities. It is a destination for local, national and international productions, exhibitions and events, showcasing emerging digital and new media work. Interactive exhibition spaces, an experimental black-box theatre and integrated public domain are ideal for multi-media, exhibition, live performance, screenings, festivals and seminars. The precinct boasts Australia's largest billboard dedicated to exhibiting public artwork from some of Australia's most prolific artists and designers.
