fjmt was short-listed to provide a concept design for this important residential tower within Sydney’s CBD, on a prominent site addressing Hyde Park.

The design creates an elegant and beautiful building that grows organically out of its site, responding to the significance of its location and in particular to the presence of the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park. The building turns gently as it rises towards the memorial in a gesture of deference and respect, and capturing the views to the harbour. It provides the healthiest living environments in the city, orientated towards its great parks and green spaces, integrating landscape within the architecture.

The project is conceived as a changing organic expression of the occupants’ living and enjoyment of this unique place. Rather than a rigid and determined geometry, a random ‘lose-fit’ expression is created by ever-changing layered surfaces of interweaving glass and timber, expressing the varying needs and preferences of the occupants, as well as the varying environmental conditions that need to be filtered and controlled.
