Unquestionably the greatest achievement of this building is the architects’ skill in marking a distinctive edge to the University with such decision. What was once the most hostile and forbidding of boundaries is now the most inviting and porous.

The building transforms a derelict site adjacent to one of Sydney’s major arterial roads into a new campus gateway. It sets a new sustainable benchmark for the University of Sydney in the provision of contemporary workplace and teaching environments. It is a sophisticated integration of multimedia, communication, architecture, arts, landscape and ecology.
The building incorporates contemporary workplace environments, specialist teaching and research facilities, integrated public domain and basement car parking. It includes much sustainable innovation such as Sydney’s first use of multi-service active chilled beams, layered façade systems and a central naturally ventilated atrium, social hub and wintergarden.
The project received a Master Builders Association Excellence in Construction Award.
