This project is a dual-occupancy (two dwellings) residential development on a ‘battle axe’ block addressing a public reserve that fronts the scenic Brisbane Waters waterway.

Each house is formed by the overlap of a two-storey timber volume and a walled courtyard. One of the timber volumes is twisted to orient directly with the shoreline, while the other relates to the lot alignment and adjacent houses.

This project developed from conceptual ideas in architecture relating to platform, walled space, volumes and intersection. Seemingly autonomous forms and volumes are consistently articulated but intersected and overlapped to give a complexity related to the characteristics of this site and richness of social programme.

This project refines the dual occupancy through the incorporation of the row house, paved houses and courtyard house topology. Each of these types is present within this project yet a strong sense of unity is developed moving beyond standard topologies.
